Even if you do think a girl looks cute, if you don’t see yourself being able to get into a relationship with her, you shouldn’t let your compliments be heard by her.
Random guys in her comments are inflating her ego + telling her she’s beautiful, and giving value for nothing in return

I think that’s the difference between our grandfathers/great grandfathers, and current gen. Previously, they would’ve been attracted to a girl but if she was married/taken, or it was not possible to get into a LTR, then they’d bite their tongue.

Social media is of course to blame because of anonymity, the guys who would never compliment her face-to-face, suddenly have the courage to behind the screen. Also the sheer number of people who can give attention to each person, means she’s hearing compliments from hundreds if not thousands of men.
Finally, I think the bar for what is worthy has been lowered, not just because of liberal society where everyone’s encouraged to give compliments (loses its worth), but also because men are so attention-starved from hypergamy

So yeah I think those 4 reasons are the main cause of simping
