I use to buy for the longest time into the idea that the world is largely random and that lots of things are just luck based, even when one accounts for innate differences between peoples such as looks and IQ differences. Granted, I still think this holds true to a certain limited amount. But the more I discover about how the world works and how most people think the more I'm leaning towards the idea that so called luck doesn't even really exist.
The problem with the luck idea is that it doesn't account for NPCism (which in all likelihood is genetically rooted in origin) and various other biological factors. And before the deniers start their "oh you think you are special?" rant...yea I do. Most of us are. Blackpillers aren't even 1% of the population. Consider the following thought experiment:
-A nation has 100 million people.
-Out of those 100 million only 10% or about 10 million have an IQ of 120+ which is the minimum most experts believe is required for advanced achievement/skill.
-Out of those 10 merely a yet another 10% or about 1m people have any actual ambition and desire to chase their dreams and become anything more than a wageslave.
-Out of those 1m people 90% will lose interest and give up after the first few months or the first year, because they realize chasing your dreams is actually hard.
-Out of those remaining 100k people that still retain interest and are willing to work hard, only another 10% aren't NPCs and actually think for themselves/are innovative.
-Out of those remaining 10k people whom have all the required personal qualities & IQ, only about 10% or about 1k are actually good looking and charismatic.
-Out of those 1k people, about 10% are blackpilled sociopaths whom have figured out morals are bullshit and will just do what they need in order to succeed.
That leaves us with a talent pool of only about 100 fucking people in a nation of 100 fucking million whom have all the required characteristics required to actually be competitive enough to make it to the top.
100 people. In a pool of 100 million.
And before you call bullshit on my numbers...as a hobby game dev let me use indie game devs as an example...
Unity has been downloaded millions and millions of times all over the world. And we are talking unique downloads and not repeat ones from the same people. Yet there are maybe a few dozen new games worth playing released for Unity every year. 99% of it all is all garbage. This holds true even if you completely ignore asset flips. This despite Unity being free and despite there being tons of free tutorials, software etc.
Brutal reality is, special snowflakes really do actually exist. Once you account for all the factors, the idea that a handful of people among billions can actually stand out is not actually that implausible at all.
