I believe that lust is overrated, I extremely despise lust, at times it can push you away from a potentially authentic relationship with someone, that you could have a great long-term ROI from them. 
Sure you can't fully control your thoughts when it comes to lust, but you should try to correctly control them as much as you possibly can. People will spend hours, days, months and years thinking/actively chasing lust, only for it to to last for seconds/minutes. 
Some chase lust for a huge chunk of their life to not even receive it. Tons of time thrown in the trash for chasing/feeling short-term pleasure from it and some may not even feel fulfilled from lust after having it in their possession. Whether it may be altering your brain chemistry from an excess amount of porn, feeling guilty from a religious perspective from it, realising your wasting your time with it, etc. People tell themselves only once but go down a spiral of telling themselves only once after indulging themselves in it, if you feel trapped in this and feel like at the same time you want to lust again once after once, than ofcourse quit lust, never look at it in the eye ever again. Some ways you can avoid lust includes being more productive, take the small steps away from lust, if it's against your religion and choosing your religion over it, switch to something that requires effort once lust enters your head, think about those you love realising your struggling with all this, and the shame they will feel if they knew about this, they wouldn't need this from you and be present among others when lust comes into your mind.
