Basically I look for paintings that have sold on eBay for a large amount, then I try to find the artist’s direct site. If there’s a big enough gap between what the artist sells their work for directly and what similar pieces have sold for on eBay, I’ll consider buying it.
The main thing for this method is finding that gap between what artwork is selling for on ebay and what it's selling for on artists' direct sites.
I usually start by searching paintings or artwork on eBay and filtering to sold items that have sold for over $1,000.
Example Scenario: I filer ebay correctly and find a painting that recently sold for $1500. I look at that artist then search for their direct website. I see that on their website or instagram or whatever that they are selling their artwork for $500. From here I would buy and relist their artwork on ebay for $1500 just like what I saw previously. Before shipping or ebay fees I now have made $1000.
Hundreds of artworks sell on eBay every day, so sharing the process doesn’t hurt me.
Some other tips: I look for paintings usually. Nothing super big because it would have higher shipping prices.I look for one of one or limited paintings. Nothing mass produced. When you post your item on ebay make sure you have the buyer pay for shipping. You can also list items on facebook marketplace and offer up but ebay is the best.
It's super easy to start this business for yourself, you would need an ebay account, an address to accept the artwork and reship it. You need at least around $300 for purchasing your first painting to resell.
It can take time to find an artist and gap in price, but when you do it's beyond easy. Items usually sit for 3-9 days before reselling on ebay.
