In response to a post about the same topic several months ago, this post was made to offer further commentary on it. Psilocybin, in the doses described in that thread (found in the best of the best subsection), magic mushrooms can result in a reduction of amygdala activity. Long term dosing can make this effect permanent. This is actually good, at least for what our goals are. The amygdala affects inhibition, anxiety to be more broad. Hyperactive amygdala cases are common these days, most due to constant utilization of short form content that effectively hits on the “fight or flight response” over and over again. This can cause increases in amygdala activity in the long term, which can result in social awkwardness. Psilocybin also drastically modulates neuroplasticity. This effect appears to be short term, but tends to last up to a month post dose. This is ALSO a very helpful effect, as neuroplasticity is what makes you actually intake complex information and rationalize it easier. To better visualize this effect, think of children that are exposed to numerous languages growing up. These children often develop varying levels of multilinguality. Exposing a 25 year old man to the same environment however, would simply result in him being confused as fuck and asking them to speak american. Psilocybin changes this. It cant bring you back to the point of neuroplasticity your mind is at as an infant/toddler, but nonetheless can make you a substantially better learner in virtually any facet. This effect has been explored in skateboarding, where newbie skateboarders have reported taking shrooms and learning to kickflip in roughly an hour. This profound effect, combined with the amygdala dulling effect, makes psilocybin a very effective drug for numerous issues you may run into in life. What the prior thread DID NOT MENTION, is that psilocybin, if dosed incorrectly, or given to the wrong person at the wrong time, can result in permanent psychosis. Mushrooms are NOT a joke, but they can be a gamechanger. Use with caution. If anyone is curious regarding United States sourcing, you will have to produce them yourself. I can go into further detail if people request it

Permanent amygdala dulling is not supported in any studies we have. Changes in emotional regulation and stress reactivity can persist for weeks->months if combined with the correct therapy/behavioral change.

Also neuroplasticity doesn't automatically confer to skill acquisition.

As for its risk Psylocybin is not uniquely dangerous, nor is it uniquely safe.

Like any psychoactive drug especially those that significantly alter perception and cognition it can precipitate psychosis or significant destabilization in vulnerable individuals, particularly those with a personal or family history of psychotic or bipolar disorders. This risk is not exclusive to psychedelics: stims, dissociatives, and even weed can do the same thing.

I strongly advise against psychedelic use if you are a person with high baseline anxiety and threat sensitivity.

imma write a thread on individual drug response variability not just for the subjective effects of drugs but for you ability to tolerate them.

this is basically that.

what is the youngest one could do this without any crazy risks
It depends.

Your brain isn't done developing until 25

Your identity is much more plastic than that of an adult so HPPD could be more likely.

Psychs don't cause mental illness but they can bring out latent ones.

I'm kinda waffling

Low baseline anxiety, low threat signaling, strong meta cognition, and good reality testing are the prerequisites.
yeah I pretty much have most of these
