J*bs bro, j*bs...I’ll just stick to online gambling
Well, LUAU aside, I know JS/TS and Python, but since I'm a backend dev for a company I use Python 99.9% of the time, excluding certain coursework for uniAh that's a shame, what languages do you use now?
Same my nephew does the same and he earns goodDNR but i know a nigga that made like a lof of money making a roblox game, since other niggers bought a lot of gamepasses there or some shit
My lilbro has 400k visit but makes 200k monthlyholy fuck whatI thought my lil game with 1 million visits making like 4k was good
But I just like to play itWhile everyone else is chasing "get rich quick" TikTok BULLSHIT like dropshipping and day trading (which, by the way, are statistically going to fail if you're young), there's a legitimate, skill-building path that many young people are not abusing. If you're a teen under 18, please HEAR ME OUT.
You might be thinking, "Roblox? Isn't that just for kids?", and you're not wrong. However, the platform, despite often being seen as a game for kids, can make you lots of money.
If you're between the ages of 13-17, GET ON ROBLOX.
When I was younger, I was obsessed with Roblox, and that obsession eventually led me down game development. Beyond just playing games, you can actually build your own experiences and earn real money.
What Skills Can You Develop on Roblox?
The beauty of Roblox is that it's a platform where various creative and technical skills can be used. Here are the core areas in my opinion:
- Programming: Roblox uses Luau, a modified version of Lua. While Lua itself is niche outside of Roblox, learning Luau teaches you fundamental programming concepts. These are transferable skills that lay the groundwork for learning other, more widely used languages. My own journey started with Luau, and it directly led me to a career in software engineering. (As a side note, you can program in Roblox with Javascript, or rather Typescript, but this is more advanced)
- Animation: Roblox has built-in animation tools, but you can also use Blender. Learning Blender for animation on Roblox can translate to eventually making real work as Blender is used for indie game development or film-making.
- Modeling: Just like animation, Blender is your friend here. Mastering 3D modeling within Blender, even if initially for Roblox, is highly valuable outside of it, again, game development studios use Blender, and it is also used in SFX or architectural design (although less commonly).
- Art/UI Design: Imma be honest, I have no idea how this works but Roblox games, need good User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design. This is also useful for web design, app development, and more.
- Building: It's an option, although less scalable and technical, and sadly knowing how to make pretty maps and buildings on Roblox has very little use outside the platform.
- SFX/Music: Creating sound effects and music for your games using software like LMMS develops skills in audio engineering and composition. Again, useful on various industries.
How to Turn Your Roblox Skills into Real Money
1. Offering Your Services (Commissions)
In my opinion, this is the most straightforward way to start earning. Platforms like Discord servers, Reddit communities, and the official Roblox Developer Forum are filled with game creators looking for talented individuals. You can:
This method is less risky than trying to create a successful game from scratch because you're providing a service with a clear deliverable and payment.
- Advertise your skills: Let people know what you're good at, whether it's scripting, building, modeling, or animating.
- Take on commissions: Clients will contact you with specific requests (e.g., "build me a new map," "create this character model," "script this game mechanic").
- Get paid: Once you deliver the asset or service, they pay you in Robux, or real money. NOTE THAT IT IS VERY COMMON TO GET SCAMMED IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL, and Roblox DOES NOT GIVE A FUCK, they have no business with the types of deals you make outside the platform.
2. Creating Your Own Games - High Reward, High Risk
This is where the big money can be made, but it's significantly more challenging:
Back in the day I worked with an artist who did work for a relatively successful game developer, he actually told that the guy was making 3k/day from his games, which is around 1 million dollars a year, bigger games or amateur/professional studios in the platform are possibly making even more.
- Develop a game: This requires a combination of the skills mentioned above. You'll need to design, program, build, and potentially animate your game.
- Monetize your game:
- Game Passes/Developer Products: Sell in-game items, special abilities, or access to exclusive content for Robux.
- Premium Payouts: Earn passive Robux based on how much time Roblox Premium subscribers spend in your game.
- However, there's an issue... The Roblox platform is saturated with games, many of which are cash grabs targeting children. To succeed, your game needs to be genuinely good or be a very smart cash grab. Even then, success isn't guaranteed. It's a tough, but the potential rewards are immense.
Cashing Out Your Robux: The Developer Exchange Program (DevEx)
Once you've accumulated Robux, you can convert it into real-world currency through the Roblox Developer Exchange (DevEx) program.
- Minimum Exchange: You need a minimum of 30,000 Robux to exchange for $105 USD.
- The Exchange Rate: The exchange rates on Roblox are ridiculous, but it is what it is. For example, to purchase 30,000 Robux directly, it would cost around $375. This means Roblox takes over 70% of earning. Although, being fair, they provide a platform and a user base.
- My Experience: During my time as a Roblox developer, I personally earned about $300 through commissions. I believe I made even more total profit, probably around $4,000, from a "big" game I co-created with friends. However, when I was 14 I wasn't thinking of making money lmaooo, so much of that was reinvested into the platform or spent on in-game items. I still regret that shit.
Why Roblox is an opportunity
- Financial Independence Without a Bank Account: Many teenagers don't have credit or debit cards. Roblox solves this by allowing you to earn and store "Robux" directly on your profile. It acts like a "digital bank account" until you're ready to exchange it for USD.
- Building Real, Transferable Skills:This is the most crucial point. The skills you gain from Roblox development aren't confined to the platform.
- Programming (Luau, TypeScript) leads to general software development.
- 3D Modeling & Animation (Blender) are essential in game development, film, and design.
- UI/UX Design is vital for any digital product.
- Project Management, Problem-Solving, and Collaboration are all fostered when creating games, especially with a team. PERSONALLY, Roblox led me to learn Python and JavaScript, and ultimately guided me to study software engineering in college, and to do freelancing stuff eventually, I actually now have a job because of it.
- Learn While You Earn: Instead of falling for "get rich quick" schemes that are statistically doomed to fail (like dropshipping or day trading), Roblox offers a unique opportunity to acquire valuable skills while simultaneously making money. LEARN SKILLS, THEN CASHOUT, you won't get that with TikTok funnels, Roblox is at least a more profitable method down the road.
If you're a teenager looking for a legitimate way to earn money, develop highly sought-after skills, and potentially even discover a future career path, Roblox game development is an option you absolutely need to consider.
That said, if you're +18, get a real job nigga.

devex literally makes it not scalable unless your top 0.001% and inorder to do that you have to use luau.... not lua but a mentally disabled little brother of it, the effort-reward is not good at all kekYeah, but that's not ScALaBlE brO!
No, I was just kidding with the scalable thing, but I do not think it's as bad as you put it. If you do enough commissions, you'll certainly make a very decent profit for someone who's not even outside of high school, plus at least in the case of LUAU it's not that hard, I was programming at a decent level in less than 5 weeks of learning the language, the learning curve is not as steep as other programming languages.devex literally makes it not scalable unless your top 0.001% and inorder to do that you have to use luau.... not lua but a mentally disabled little brother of it, the effort-reward is not good at all kek
imagine handicapping lua for security and still having rce's![]()

I believe the reason that the effort-reward ratio is not good, it's exactly the reason why this method is good, given that you're interested in tech, again Roblox dev was such a huge stepping stone for me when it comes to programming in general, and the fact that I was making some money, on top of learning, ON TOP OF BASICALLY PLAYING A GAME, is a huge deal with amazing carry over to advanced tools and serious work in the job market.
Yeah, it was a huge stepping stone personally, basically everything I'm seeing in SE in college, or even before learning Python or TS I had already previously learned through LUAU in an objectively easier environment, therefore climbing to a harder programming language got as easy can be personally.the reason the learning curve is not steep is because there is 20 something keywords, ofc there is no curve, but you pay the price with HORRIBLE net code and some of the worse client-server interaction seen on a game engine
there is a reason there is so much slop on there, its about as easy as microwaving a pizza
also what do you exactly mean by huge stepping stone in programming? lua is a scripting language, its about as easy as it gets, i dont see what step you could have taken before that, i would MAYBE advise it for 12-15 year olds but i started getting into programming at 13 and for some retarded reason started with c++ progressing 2x slower at that time but still sticking through with it
anyone 15-20 should honestly as bad as it sounds, do memecoins, not even to trade it but to make the coins themselves, right now its pretty much the equivalent of printing money, ive done $7k this pass week with peaking $13k in 1.5 weeks
also, regarding LUAU the entry level for the language is pretty low, anyone can watch a tutorial and start coding in a day, but I do not think you got half as deep into LUA as you think if you think like this. LUA can do basically EVERYTHING other programming languages, albeit less efficiently and with more effort (but this is kinda why it's great for learning), and if there's truly something LUA can't do, you always have the option of just doing TypeScript + VSthe reason the learning curve is not steep is because there is 20 something keywords, ofc there is no curve, but you pay the price with HORRIBLE net code and some of the worse client-server interaction seen on a game engine

To me memecoins are pretty stupid, not because you won't make money, but because that's as best a good cashflow side gig, if you expect to make something that makes you huge amounts of money (speaking of businesses, SaaS and startups), or getting a half-decent paying job for stability, those skills have zero carry over there. I personally prefer to play the long game, no amount of buying and selling memecoins will ever catch up to the exponential growth potential of a startup, or give you the stability of a normal job if you prefer that route.
But hey, to each their own, if you're seeing success, then great for you. But you have to admit, you're kinda exaggerating the "negatives" and undermining the positives
a 70/30 cut should be taken in extreme consideration, which imo is justified to be "exaggerating"But hey, to each their own, if you're seeing success, then great for you. lol, i got into deeper aspects of lua and made a game in a another game engine called love, lua is a scripting language, you have to be clear when you say "albeit less efficiently" because that applies for EVERYTHING, there is a reason lua isnt widely used because... there is no use for it anymore, servers? js, game dev? c++, machine learning? python, full stack web apps? tsalso, regarding LUAU the entry level for the language is pretty low, anyone can watch a tutorial and start coding in a day, but I do not think you got half as deep into LUA as you think if you think like this. Dont sus that near meJ*bs bro, j*bs...![]()
Yeah but that's only assuming you can consistently replicate those high returns every week or two, which is unrealistic for most people, or even people deep into it. In practice, memecoin money is very volatine, people usually get big paydays for a month or two, then dry spells for months after. Or maybe not, maybe you're the next memecoin guru/genius and 99.9% of the population should hop on it, enlighten me.a "side" gig isnt $500k a year
I'm sorry but I disagree, and I will die on that hill fidgeting with memecoins is not and will never be as profitable in the long-run as a successful business or startup venture, given that it finds moderate amounts of success.also, there is some bit of it that does carry over, u still need a site, if it isnt a dapp and just through next.js etc then its as transferable as said saas, startup, business
Yes, that's true! But if you're 13, does that freaking matter? No one over the age of 18 should get into Roblox and expect to get any meaningful amount of money unless they're developing a massive cashgrab for children that hit it big, you may think that's a horrible deal because you're an adult or at the very least late teen who needs money to pay for expensive stuff consistently, but a child does NOT have those needs and for them that's a very decent deal.a 70/30 cut should be taken in extreme consideration, which imo is justified to be "exaggerating"
Also yes, I'm not saying LUA is an amazing programming language, the WHOLE POINT OF THIS IS TO SERVE AS AN STEPPING STONE. In my professional work and studies I have never written a single line of LUA, 99.99% of my work is on Python or Js/Ts, and the occasional obscure Mesopotamian language that hasn't been used since the 80s because my professor likes to be quirky like that.lol, i got into deeper aspects of lua and made a game in a another game engine called love, lua is a scripting language, you have to be clear when you say "albeit less efficiently" because that applies for EVERYTHING, there is a reason lua isnt widely used because... there is no use for it anymore, servers? js, game dev? c++, machine learning? python, full stack web apps? ts
Objectively speaking though, we have different philosophies, you go for short-term cashflows to get fast cash, I'm okay with a moderate amount of money knowing that my efforts now will likely compound later on and give me massive returns for increasingly less and less work once I reach 25, 30, 40, and so on.a "side" gig isnt $500k a year

maybe, we have different philosophies because we want money for different reasons, i got the money to get some surgeries and being able to finish with surgeries at 19, (18 now) i dont care about being a millionaire or living in a mansion, its just a big box with more rooms that are not going to be used, upper middle class houses are ideal for me tbhObjectively speaking though, we have different philosophies, you go for short-term cashflows to get fast cash, I'm okay with a moderate amount of money knowing that my efforts now will likely compound later on and give me massive returns for increasingly less and less work once I reach 25, 30, 40, and so on.
As a great entrepreneur once said... I forgot what he said verbatim, but it was basically something about learning once you're 19, building something in your 20s and then living in a ski resort in the Alps for the rest of your life. Maybe not realistic for most people, but he is managing a growing business worth 10 million dollars
Yeah, I think you nailed it there, I also want to get a few surgeries, but they're not my highest priority currently, the one I need the most is a genioplasty and I can already afford that anyway, I'm just waiting to finish uni so I can actually do it and not mess up my schedule. I'm going to come clean I chase the superficial "as much money as possible" I wanna live the tech entrepreneur living in Silicon Valley lifestyle until the day I die, and it's fine if you do not want to do thatmaybe, we have different philosophies because we want money for different reasons, i got the money to get some surgeries and being able to finish with surgeries at 19, (18 now) i dont care about being a millionaire or living in a mansion, its just a big box with more rooms that are not going to be used, upper middle class houses are ideal for me tbh
but why do that over something like roblox? the teens that have that life from roblox i can count on 2 hands compared, if u did some retarded startup/ai startup, the hype is what u need to actually chase if u want "as much money as possible", i wouldnt i say i dont want it, its just boring to me, when i was 17 i made a full field service management service startup and quit at its peak (tbf i was only making like $5k a month, but it was short lived, maybe could have went somewhere) because it was just so fucking boringYeah, I think you nailed it there, I also want to get a few surgeries, but they're not my highest priority currently, the one I need the most is a genioplasty and I can already afford that anyway, I'm just waiting to finish uni so I can actually do it and not mess up my schedule. i mean, i dont think rich people truly never work a day again, there was a billionaire who sold his company and got depressed when he had no more passions and did nothing all day, there is some intrinsic thing with working, you do it one way or anotherBut, I of course don't think you expect to get your surgeries and never work a day in your life again, but what will you do after that? Don't you wanna keep growing something, build something meaningful that will give you true financial freedom? I don't know, summarizing it all to getting surgeries and then "figuring it out from there" sounds kinda aimless
Yeah I mean you said yourself, building some real and profitable once you're young is DAMN BORING, I don't know about you, but I couldn't see 13-14yo me making some advanced SaaS and making 10k/month from it, at least with Roblox I was having some fun and building some skills which helped me a little bit. I may be kinda biased since I have very good memories on the platform and honestly without it I wouldn't have discovered my passion for coding, but the reason why I recommend it is that it is fun, it is relatively "profitable" and more than likely will be useful in your professional later on.but why do that over something like roblox? the teens that have that life from roblox i can count on 2 hands compared, if u did some retarded startup/ai startup, the hype is what u need to actually chase if u want "as much money as possible", i wouldnt i say i dont want it, its just boring to me, when i was 17 i made a full field service management service startup and quit at its peak (tbf i was only making like $5k a month, but it was short lived, maybe could have went somewhere) because it was just so fucking boring
Yeah, if I ever make it big and sell a company or something I believe I would just start a new one, I think there's a reason why majority of CEOs and CTOs always end up doing that at some point if they retire or get kicked out, life probably gets boring after that. ut frankly my question was around whether you would just start working a normal day job or something, and stop hustling once you achieve the goal of the surgeries, although in retrospect I don't think that would be too much of an issue for you.i mean, i dont think rich people truly never work a day again, there was a billionaire who sold his company and got depressed when he had no more passions and did nothing all day, there is some intrinsic thing with working, you do it one way or another

That's only around game development, making a successful game on Roblox is hard or next to impossible unless you get lucky and are deliberately trying to make a cash grab, or you make really quality stuff on Roblox (and at that point, why would you?). But doing commissions for other developers certainly works, I both went through the motions of making a "successful" little game and doing commissions, one is arguably less effort and more profitable, and honestly much more doable than the other for young people. It really only works if you're in the top of the top. Otherwise it won't really do much at all.
good idea on paper but it takes a lot of time and creativity and also luck
just creating a map can take you days or even weeks of your time and it might not even blow up
but if you want to make a cashgrab brainrot game for kids that will die in a month its a good idea
i actually tried making a game with creativity and authenticity but it took me so many hours i just gave up bcz my mentality was bad then
but if you want to resort to making brainrot games go ahead, you dont need much scripting knowledge for those kind of games
sorry, i dnr'dView attachment 3888173
Honestly fuck game development, just do commissions for people's trash games
I think I made the big mistake as a teen of being a bit too pretentious, I treated game development on Roblox as actual game development and I wanted to make these "deep" and "introspectives" games on ROBLOX, that's why beyond my little anime fighter game, none of my eventual projects succeeded and why I then settled for doing comission work and eventually quitting the platform because I was now an adult with bills lol.sorry, i dnr'd
but looks like you went through the same cycle as me but you went for commisions instead
i think you feel the pain of not being able to make a good creative game
it would make me so happy seeing people play and enjoy my creation and seeing money flow in next to it
i always wanted to create
Yeah I mean, if you're not looking for anything long term or sustainable, and you're just looking for a side gig, then it's fine.
The main problem with developing games on Roblox is the audience. Even if you make a top tier game it may never go up to 1000 active players.I think I made the big mistake as a teen of being a bit too pretentious, I treated game development on Roblox as actual game development and I wanted to make these "deep" and "introspectives" games on ROBLOX, that's why beyond my little anime fighter game, none of my eventual projects succeeded and why I then settled for doing comission work and eventually quitting the platform because I was now an adult with bills lol.
I don't think it's impossible to make great games and see success from it, it just takes a very particular approach, and many times not fully adhering to your vision in favor of monetization and brainrot game loops to some degree. But even with that, the Roblox market is absolutely skewed against you. if you're young and still wanna make games on Roblox that see success I can only give you 3 pieces of advice that worked for me, ONCE:
- Talk to YouTubers and get them to play your game, they're the easiest method to get a lot of people playing your game.
- Do partnerships to build your Discord community, I'm not even sure if people do those anymore, but back in my time managing my big project they were common, again, very good way of gaining traction with players.
- Get yourself a team, even if it's friends, they're bad and you're doing most of the heavy lifting. You simply will not make a great game completely on your own, or at least it's not too likely. You simply cannot code, animate, model, do VFX, do SFX, do music, etc. all at the same time to a good enough level.
Well, I mean of course, this guide is intended for young to around late teens, not adult. At such a young age I don't think any of them should be worrying about anything "long-term" or "sustainable", the point is kinda to build skills, ideally while having fun, or even better making money along with it too. If you're at that interval of 16-18, it's probably not the best for you, maybe 16-17yos, but that's already pushing it and at a point where I would personally start looking beyond Roblox game development if you did enjoy coding (or any of the other art related stuff).Yeah I mean, if you're not looking for anything long term or sustainable, and you're just looking for a side gig, then it's fine.
Ngl I have no idea how hard it is nowadays, I haven't developed in like 3 years or so? But I shouldn't have changed that much I'd assumeThe main problem with developing games on Roblox is the audience. Even if you make a top tier game it may never go up to 1000 active players.
Yeah, essentially, the average Roblox player is too young to play such games, and by that metric older players will never actually find your games because Roblox gives better view to games that children love. The players on roblox have no attention span and chasing the quick dopamine hits, which a good game with storyline, learnable game mechanics will never give. A games success on Roblox nowadays is not about how good the game is - but rather how much dopamine it can feed you and this is kinda fucked.
This is also where I kinda disagree, the reason why you would develop on Roblox with a small team is because it's Roblox, it's easy, half the game is already been made for you. To make actual games on Steam you need ACTUAL CASH and likely an even better team that people you'd find on Roblox, definately not something a kid can do.If you settle down with a dev team to make roblox games, i think you should rather make actual games you can publish on sites like Steam or Itch.io.
As a side note, personally I think the sponsored tab is just a huge fucking scam, costs too much, doesn't guarantee any amount of visibility. At least with YouTubers + Partnerships, nowdays I assume even TikTok too, you can get visibility and even product market fit (measured via whether people actually show interest in your game) without even paying a single dimeDon't get me wrong - creating a good game with actual creativity is not impossible to blow up, you just need hella luck and you need to monetize it as you said - also you can pay for it to show up in the sponsored tab.
Honestly I don't think I'd ever go on Roblox, I don't even know what happened to my old team, probably already have jobs n shit, I think one of them is a lawyer now, the only one I keep contact with is studying engineering too, now we're all uncs, no time for RobloxI have no knowledge on game development outside Roblox tho - i just figured if you have a team you should just try making a real game which in a long span of time will dramatically increase your skills, but again - i don't know.
For me, I built something when I was very young, that I had no idea would become long term or sustainable - and it is my main source of income to this day.Well, I mean of course, this guide is intended for young to around late teens, not adult. At such a young age I don't think any of them should be worrying about anything "long-term" or "sustainable", the point is kinda to build skills, ideally while having fun, or even better making money along with it too. can vouch, my friend does itWhile everyone else is chasing "get rich quick" TikTok BULLSHIT like dropshipping and day trading (which, by the way, are statistically going to fail if you're young), there's a legitimate, skill-building path that many young people are not abusing.

Just been using scripts and plugins. While everyone else is chasing "get rich quick" TikTok BULLSHIT like dropshipping and day trading (which, by the way, are statistically going to fail if you're young), there's a legitimate, skill-building path that many young people are not abusing.
Note: Most of this thread was written by me, but I employed ChatGPT to fix grammar and organize the structure.
