Making fun of people is socially acceptable only when they are not conventionally attractive or fit social norms

I’ve noticed when someone is clearly being made fun of people don’t really care unless they are attractive or have a good social standing (if someone is attractive they usually get good social standing automatically and are less likely to get made fun of) , I’ve seen people just watch when someone is being made fun of people just watch or laugh along when someone is being mistreated. For example one day (i am pretty sure March 10th) some people in my class who decided they didn’t like me after I had one interaction with them and while we were waiting for the bell to ring one of them noticed I had some of my cats fur on the side of my pants (my cats fur is white) and one of them said “is that nut on your pants!” Loud enough for most people at the location to hear and than most of the people in my class started laughing at me and it was very embarrassing to be laughed at like that, and the teacher was at his desk and the desk is like 4 meters from the door we were all waiting at and probably heard it, but still no one asked if I was okay or apologized for laughing at me they just brushed it off afterwards like it was nothing
