It’s really not as easy. I cannot do wudu in public places, only at home. I also cannot pray elsewhere, there’s a bunch of stuff getting in the way in terms of OCD. But the main reason why it’s “difficult” is because I need to be ghuslmaxxed even though I’m a gooner.

Ameen sum ameen. Yes, contamination OCD honestly gets in the way. I don’t even touch my face when I’m outside. Even if I were to have a bad itch, I wouldn’t scratch it.

One of my classmates in university is a salafist type guy. He was trying to get me to pray with him, but I explained my OCD wouldn’t allow it. And he’s like, “You’re just looking for excuses, that’s the devil talking.” Some people have no understanding of mental problems. I just kept laughing because I knew it sounded like I was just lying, but it’s genuinely something that gets in the way for me.

Even if I ritually cleanse myself at home, if I have to go to the mosque for example, I have to wear specific shoes and socks because I don’t want to contaminate things, I know the place is supposed to be considered pure but my OCD will not accept it. The floor is dirty to me because everyone walks on it, either with or without socks, it makes little difference to me. And I cannot put my head on the floor either.

OCD sucks.
