That was back in the old days when homosexuality was still illegal, gays would meet in certain places like public toilets, parks, bathhouses, beaches, etc. and would quickly get down to business, they couldn't afford to be picky, so even a subhuman could easily get laid...Even after homosexuality was legalized, it still wasn't widely accepted for a long time, some thugs would visit the cruising places just to pick on or beat the gays so it was still a dangerous activity and having standards just wasn't a priority.
Now that it's legal and accepted, the gays are even more pickier than females - they want good looking guys and don't care about much else.
