marginalized groups thinking theyre superior

I wonder how some marginalized groups think they have power in todays society, when they were seen as less than animals back in the days. (EG: Troons, Dykes, women and whatnot.) To have an ego just because you gained some rights is peculiar. What causes them to gain this much of an ego? Is it because they feel like they're "different" from everyone else? (they look like retards)
