MARPE + Maxillary Protraction, Ultimate Orthos?

saw a couple of guys with MARPE + Maxillary Protraction(over 18, this can be done in young adults), who are ascending due to it; it like, exands and pulls the maxilla.

like what? i have an issue where my lower lip is a bit behind, my upper one even if i fixed my overbite

MARPE will widen your face and can give ‘moon face’ unless you have a deformed palate to begin with (think 34mm IMW or less)

Protraction has some proven benefits but it will legit tank your social life to do properly lol. To make the most out of it you gotta wear it most hours out the day to provide enough stimulation/force to slightly advance the maxilla

If you’re recessed enough to the point where you need protraction, literally just do jaw surgery and get it over with yk

Jaw growth is done in a 3 dimensional fashion, palate expansion simply focuses on the width more than advancement, Protraction isnt enough to compensate for the widening of the palate unless you’re <15

When you widen your palate exclusively it can also widen your face; taking away hollow cheeks or any angularity and giving a wider midface or a round face “Moon face”

go see a decent ortho and have him review your IMW, or gpt a way to measure at home

and tbh the vids are cherry picked. all those guys looked good prior, find other cases outside the bp space and youll see most arent impressive unless super young
