Marpe or other palatal expansion such as rpe are very overhyped in the community. For people with severely narrow-narrow palate usually <30mm and other dental problems such as crossbites it can offer mild-moderate effects and can be noticed very easily. . In those cases you may see a wider smile, reduced negative space at the corners of the mouth, and sometimes a slightly more open midface appearance. This is where people report “real” before/after differences.
If someone has mildly narrow or average palate the effects can be subtle and may help the teeth alignment or the smile arch.I f someone already has a normal width for the palate the results can be diminishing.
Marpe primarily changes the maxillary width and the dental arch and the most visible looks improvement comes from:
1.Better tooth display.
2.Reduced crowding
3.Reduction in nasiolabial folds.
4.Improved facial muscular function.
