For what then. Maybe health benefits but depending on what you train many martial arts fuck your health up really bad

I did MMA. There was once instance where a guy intentionally bumped into my mom at disneyland. Obviously I said something to him, and he got aggressive and a fight broke out. I managed to physically calm him down quick and we went back to our activities. Thats just one instance but i can mention more.

Very rare situation and not particularly important tbh

I prefer to prepare for situations that might seem rare. But there has been multiple instances where martial arts have been useful to me. Many things in our day to day are for rare situations, you dont lose anything by having knowledge in fighting, especially if you cant have a gun

You lose time, money, energy and risk your health while doing it. Not to mention that a ton of people who go to boxing or muay thai 2x a week and dont spar start thinking they can fight and get fucking folded by the first ghetto black guy who isnt afraid to throw hands

not worth it in a world where you can get fucking popped close-range by a 13 year old

Those reasons only apply to you because you think martial arts are useless. For someone that has understanding on the topic, youre investing your time, money and energy. And im not sure what health risks your talking about. Sparring with head gear carries minimal health risks. And most gyms have you spar at least once a week, thats an extremely rare case. And imo, even if they didnt spar i'd still argue they wouldnt lose the fight to an untrained guy.

I used to do kick boxing when I was younger. It literally does nothing in a real alteration. The only things that really matter are height and weight.

Dude just in my personal experience because of martial arts i have issues with my hip, spine and neck (very minor) and shoulders. And you’re not really investing it into anything since theres no return. If you enjoy it then yeah absolutely but otherwise there is in essence no benefit.

I can see where ur coming from but i dont think youre looking at the big picture since you really believe in your claim. The health issues i sort of understand, but i was a 13-4 amateur for USA boxing and the only injury i got was a sprained wrist. But if you dont want to use personal experience, then i guess i could say that data backs up my claim. If you train correctly there's minimal chance of injury. And the return on investment for martial arts is the ability to defend yourself and family when guns arent involved

First of all you cant and shouldn’t rely on martial arts training against guns and secondly boxing carries a far smaller risk of injury than mma which im referring to. In any case tho its still not particularly healthy

It does if you end up in a predicament where someone wants to fight you, and you need to defend yourself

Wrong

Such a situation is so rare that its not even worth considering it.

If you are like any young person that tries to socialise and go out to places at night, youre guaranteed to at some point run into some drunk retard who wants to fight you

Yea and you can almost always deescalate

Yea and you cant almost always deescalate
I wont deny that deescalating is something you can do and should be the first ideally to avoid trouble, especially with large groups

But there are signs someone will give where they really want to fight you (e.g. getting up close and personal) and in cases like these there is no chance for deescalation. You need to get in that first punch and defend yourself

You probably can deescalate even then and generally you wouldnt even find yourself in that spot unless you were being dumb

Yeah, thats why i said "When guns aren't involved"

Yea thats the other thing nobody fights “fair”

Good luck deescalating when its gotten that far, only way i could even see it being deescalated is if you try to push them away indicating you dont want to fight. And if they walk back to you then you REALLY have no choice but to fight

Best to land the first punch at that stage before they do. If they land a very good punch you could be fucked

Also dumb in what way? You could be a college/uni student walking back to your dorm from a socials event when a drunk bastard on the street tries to intimidate you and clearly wants to fight

Dude most people just wanna act tough when they get in your face very very few people would actually prefer to fight

Wrong. Most people wanna act tough when they start yelling about how theyre gonna fuck you up and not doing anything

If someone is up that close the chances of just intimidation are slim. Talking it out will get u nowhere at that point if theyre that riled up, only possible way would be to give them a little push indicating you dont wanna fight and are just trying to be on your way

And if they walk back towards u after being pushed then you really have no choice but to defend yourself

I gotta disagree here. First of all getting in your face and yelling at you generally go hand in hand and secondly if you really wanna hurt somebody youre not gonna walk infront of them with your hands down and chin up

Hands down and chin up doesnt mean they dont wanna fight though. Not everyone gets into a stance before they swing their first hook, if someones already in your face yelling and giving you no personal space, you have no way of knowing if theyre bluffing or actually gonna do something.

Generally whether or not they begin fighting depends on how you react. If you push them or throw a punch then yeah but if you try to back away and talk its far less likely

My point is that its far less likely that you will be able to deescalate the situation if theyre in your personal space and getting up close to you with the clear ill intent of wanting to fight, and if nothing is working out its best to throw the first punch before they do

A few things to consider. First of all if you act rationally it will almost never get to that point. Secondly, if it does, more often than not there are people around to break it up or help you. Lastly, you can throw the punch from that position without any training. It doesn’t take much experience to throw an overhand against someone who’s right infront of you with his hands down

The point is that in this situation it has gotten to that point however

I agree here, although thats assuming this is in an environment with loads of people around and not at night on an empty street like with the example i gave for why you may end up in this predicament

True, but its ideal to learn how to throw a proper hook to deal proper damage
