Putin has launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and the Russian air force are conducting air sorties continously without discriminating against civilian targets

Ukraine is fucked. The US killed 50-100K in Desert Storm alone. The Russians have been pretty restrained considering the scope of the conflict.

Who knows how long this will hold, Jason.

these are attacks in russia ?

the bombings heard in ukraine is normal

idk when putin will really retaliate
Putin is naturally risk averse. The military hardliners will be pushing him everyday to retaliate with extreme force.

Yeah bombing a few random targets isnt enough. They need to strike hard with their airforce

They basically need their own Operation Desert Storm.

Neither side can win decisively and both are locked into a war of attrition. Ukraine's has strong western support and advanced western air defenses but the front lines have mostly stalled. Russia still has huge reserves and a war economy still, while Ukraine relies heavily on foreign weapons and funding even after the loss russia is still quite strong but they aren't willing to launch a daring assault to end this war for once.

They need to start scaling up lest they want Ukraine to bomb deep into Russia again

It will be difficult to replicate that drone operation. Apparently took 18 months to plan.

The Russians have the capacity to knock Ukraine out but Putin has been reluctant to use it.

His risk aversion is becoming a liability to Russia.

Russia 100% can win this. Itโ€™s the political will that is lacking, like you say.

I have no idea why Westerners want to get rid of Putin so much. Do they honestly think his replacement will be more pro Western?

Ukraine, with Western help, has layered its skies with serious air defense Patriots, IRIS-T, NASAMS, and mobile systems. Every time Russia tries to push with their jets they get shot down. They can still win if they all out with their bombing squadron and use missiles to take out the ADs eith support from ground but launching such a large scale invasion takes a lot of time and comes with heavy losses.

They'd lose aircrafts , prestige, and deterrence. That's why they're playing it safe: attrition warfare, long-range missile barrages, and grinding slowly in places like Avdiivka or Kharkiv - hoping Ukraine cracks from exhaustion and reduced Western support.

This has been my opinion too in fact. The Russians can wage long term attritional warfare and minimize their casualties this way too.

The Russians could mobilize and go in harder but theyโ€™d still incur a lot of casualties in the process.

I 100% agree with this assessment.

I am thinking of a frozen conflict. The front lines stay largely where they are with periodic offensives, drone strikes, and shelling, but no major breakthroughs. Lole Korea post-1953 or the Donbas from 2014 to 2022 The war never officially ends but active fighting slows down. Ukraine holds the west, Russia holds parts of the east and south.

Thatโ€™s broadly my opinion too.
Donbas + landbridge to Crimea.
The Russians already occupy most of the majority Russian speaking territory anyway.

I donโ€™t see the political will from Putin to escalate or Trump to outright walk away right now.

Canโ€™t discount the real possibility that Putin does decide to further mobilize though. Maybe take Odessa and strip Ukraine of Black Sea access.
