Ancient people did algebra with shapes to write x squared they’d literally imagine a square with sides x and then the area would be x squared. And they did that with everything even solving quadratics.

Development of calculus would be impossible this way and so science would never be developed either since calculus is needed for big advancements in science and Europe never would’ve industrialized and become rich
