spoke with an orthodontist today about me being a possible candidate at 18 for this therapy. im not severely recessed but i do have a visibily flat midface as well as a misaligned bite and other functional issues, and was wondering how significant the changes would be aesthetically and functionally from 2-3 mm of forward maxillary growth + ccw rotation (the predicted outcome of this therapy at my age after months of consistently wearing the facemask for 12-14 hours a day). he told me that it wouldnt be worth it since 2 mm would not give any visual change and was wondering if thats really true? did my research and found thats actually a big difference since the surrounding soft tissue looks slightly more lifted up and supported from such a tiny amount of forward growth.

a few mm can change so much.

idk who to go to anymore. i got braces on june 2024 almost a year and a half ago for my bite issues. i wasnt fully aware that the root cause of my problems were skeletal and not dental. and i recently spoke with a maxillofacial surgeon who tried to convince me the only way to fix my problem was a lefort 1, but i wasnt really buying it and was scared of surgery so i looked for more orthodontists to consult with and landed on this one who just told me that the facemask therapy isnt viable for me.

yes a few mm can change alot
he seemed experienced with marpe therapy and facemasks so naturally i believed him when he said that 2-3 mm wouldnt be significant in terms of aesthetics and functionality
