It allows you to market yourself to a wider range of employers. It also makes for great conversation (i.e. "you have a motorcycle?", "can you mix me 'x'?", "isn't skydiving dangerous?")

Some certifications/licenses to consider (the ones I have are marked with an asterisk):
- CPR*
- lifeguard
- EMT*
- firefighting
- USPA (skydiving) A/B/C/D
- ASA (sailing)
- bartending
- motorcycle license*
- pyrotechnician
- forklift operator

Polymaths are people with a wide-range of specific knowledge, and being able to relate such as a function of relevance is an even greater feat.

Becoming distinguished is an amazingly fulfilling path to pursuit. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

You'd be surprised what you might get out of it. I plan on getting that, and my skydiving license, and most people think those two things are pretty cool.

People will make an image of you in their minds, and it doesn't hurt if they imagine you doing cool stuff like the above.
