Im mewing while having an overbite , should I correct my teeth placement then mew or js mew while overbite , BTW does braces recess the maxilla or the mandible or js the teeth
ty for helping

I think theres some caution needed for braces but im not very knowledgeable on it maybe someone else can get deeper on it

They can recess all but one per case so it depends

Braces only cause teeth to shift; they won't improve your bite. Treat your bite, otherwise mewing is useless.

well in theory it could make it worse since ur kinda pushing the bite itself more forward, as youre also expanding your roof of the mouth
That’s nonsense. Placing the tongue on the palate (what people call mewing) does not generate directed, controlled forces capable of pushing the “bite forward” in a skeletal sense.

depends on your severity I guess

my fault gang, make sure to do it in the right way then since most tend to focus too much on the tip of the tongue which can cause it

Mewing cannot correct skeletal overbite issues after childhood, as the palate and facial bones are most responsive during early growth phases
not wat I meant , I js askin that should I mew in my bite (overbite ) or naturally (on top of each others)

“Braces only move teeth; they don’t fix the bite”

This is false.

orthodontic braces are designed specifically to improve occlusion (the bite), not just tooth position. They can:

  • align teeth,
  • correct overbites/underbites (to a significant degree),
  • coordinate upper and lower arches,
  • improve functional chewing relationships.

In more complex skeletal cases, braces alone may not be enough, but that doesn’t mean they “don’t fix the bite” — it means some cases require additional interventions (e.g., elastics, expanders, or orthognathic surgery).

Why do you remove all nuance from your claim? You don’t know whether his overbite is a skeletal or dental issue

I could be wrong, I admit it. But then why didn't braces correct my distal and deep bite without forsus? It's all individual. Maybe they can promote a correct bite, but not for others.

A distal bite (Class II relationship) combined with a deep bite often isn’t just a “teeth alignment” problem — it’s frequently a mix of dental + skeletal patterns.

Why braces alone may not be enough

orthodontic braces mainly:

-move teeth within the bone,
-level and align arches,
-correct mild-to-moderate bite discrepancies.

But in a Class II / deep bite case:

-The upper jaw may be positioned forward relative to the lower jaw (skeletal component), or
-The lower jaw may be relatively retrusive, and/or
-There may be strong muscular/vertical growth patterns maintaining the deep bite.

In those situations, braces alone often can’t generate enough controlled jaw repositioning.

Why a Forsus was used

A Forsus appliance is a fixed functional appliance designed to:

-apply continuous forward force to the lower jaw (or backward force to upper teeth),
-help correct Class II (distal bite) relationships,
-modify jaw relationship during growth or dentoalveolar adaptation.

So in many cases:

-braces = align teeth
-Forsus (or elastics, or other mechanics) = correct the anteroposterior bite relationship

Key point

If your bite didn’t fully correct with braces alone, it usually means:

the problem wasn’t purely dental, or
it required additional orthopedic/functional forces, not just tooth movement.
