OPTIONAl: song for this thread
I am sure you all are aware of what microplastics are and how bad they are to the environment and the human body.
This thread will cover how to detox them.
What are microplastics:
Microplastics are tiny plastics that are less than 5 millimeters in size, macroplastics are plastics bigger than 5mm they are less risk but still problematic picture a tupperware container with a plastic lid (more on that on another thread).
Why should be care about microplastics:
Microplastics effects many parts of the human body but the biggest area that we will focus on is testosterone. Many study conclude that microplastic exposure resulted in alterations in testicular histology, abnormal spermatogenesis, and interference of serum hormone secretion in mice. Obviously looking at a natural viewpoint plastic isn't natural apart of our environment over 100 years ago we did not have any plastics.
A graphic showing how microplastics can effect the human body both male and female
One example of the many way microplastics can enter the human body (future threads will focus on how to limit exposure to microplastics)
How to detox from microplastics:
Method 1: Plasma/blood donation
A study done on Australian firefighters concluded that levels of microplastics in the body were reduced, due to blood and plasma donations.
With plasma donation being the best at excreting microplastics, I would first check with your doctor if you are okay to donate blood/plasma. The safe limit of donating seems 7 per year.
Method 2: Sauna/hoodie method
The sauna can be a great way to detox the body from no only microplastics but other toxins. Saunas increase sweating, which help eliminate other toxins from the body but also small amounts of BPA plastics. A downside of the sauna is the heat effecting testiscles which impairs testicular function, as the testes require a cooler temperature to produce sperm and testosterone effectively. Studies have also shown that regular exposure to high temperatures may temporarily lower testosterone levels. To minimise this go the sauna for 1-2 times a week for 15-20 minutes. Have a shower after to wash off anything.
If you don't have access to a sauna the hoodie method can be used, this method requires a hoodie which you wear at while you workout/do cardio this will make you sweat and thus acts like a sauna. A upside to the hoodie method is that the heat is concentrated to your upper body and not effectting your testisles that much. Workout for the first 15-20 minutes of your workout with the hoodie on and take it off after repeat 1-2 times a week.
Final verdict:
Ultimately this is history repeating itself, ever since the industrial revolution and the inventions of different materials, it has lead us to this path the best we can do is limit our exposure. Which brings me to my next thread will be about how to reduce microplastic exposure and future ones will be on estrogenic minimizing etc.
