Sepsis symptoms in older children and adults

Early symptoms of sepsis may include:

  • a high temperature (fever) or low body temperature
  • chills and shivering
  • a fast heartbeat
  • fast breathing

In some cases, symptoms of more severe sepsis or septic shock (when your blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level) develop soon after.

These can include:

  • feeling dizzy or faint
  • a change in mental state – such as confusion or disorientation
  • diarrhoea
  • nausea and vomiting
  • slurred speech
  • severe muscle pain
  • severe breathlessness
  • less urine production than normal – for example, not urinating for a day
  • cold, clammy and pale or mottled skin
  • loss of consciousness

When to get medical help

Seek urgent medical advice from your GP if you've recently had an infection or injury and you have possible signs of sepsis, and ask 'is this sepsis?'. If your GP practice is closed, phone the 111 service.

If sepsis is suspected, you'll usually be referred to hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.

Severe sepsis and septic shock are medical emergencies. If you think you or someone in your care has one of these conditions, go straight to A&E or call 999.

couldn't you go by yourself? you're 17 not 15. sticky situation ngl. if only you were one year older. i might try going to a doctor/pharmacist and saying something like "can I ask you quick question mehehe" and say you were injecting your insulin and you're diabetic and it went wrong. although is insulin injected in those tissues? idk

Go to the hospital (ER)
Doctor-patient confidentiality means your parents don't have to know

Lump/knot under the site of the injection that can be present for weeks to months You can place a cool compress on the area or do nothing at all. Either way it will go away on its own.

elab I need some peace of mind pls
Ok, I will elab

Sepsis are complications of highly-dangerous bacterias, near all cases of sepsis come from bacterias that inhabit hospitals, for example most cases of sepsis happen to patients that spend a long time with urine catheter and then it gets infected with a resistent bacteria that inhabts the hospital. The bacteria that infected the injection spot is either a Staphylococcus or a Streptococcus, they would never complicate into sepsis JFL.
Another factor is that in most cases sepsis happen to people who have bad imune systems, like old people.

It's got to be an abscess, you shot up and didn't clean the site. I'm pretty sure you can pop it at home (do your research)

It has to be. He shot up and didn't clean it properly. Probably a dirty needle too.
What else could it be?

If an intravenous drug user is unable or unwilling to visit a physician for treatment, smaller, more superficial abscesses can be treated at home. Larger abscesses, or abscesses with surrounding red streaks, will be need to be treated professionally.

Abscesses take a long time to appear and when they appear the symptoms are pretty hard, the bump would be bigger, it would be red as fuck and also very painful, plus OP would probably have a fever.
Also if OP had an abscess he would also have previous symptoms from skin infections like cellulitis. Abscesses are complications from those infections.

imo I don't even think it's an infection, I believe it's just a bump from injecting incorrectly.

Idk anything about injecting
You should see a doctor if you want to so he can have a proper examination but it's nothing to worry about tbh
