It depends on your genes. If you are in the other 60%, using minoxodil is not effective.
Also, you have to use it twice a day, for a few months, before you'll notice if there is a change.
That's a lot of effort just to see if you are in the lucky 40%.

I used minoxidil to treat hair loss in the middle of the hairline (not the usual male pattern baldness which kills the hair on sides) and it worked
 
A hair transplant would be better than Minoxidil.
Hair transplants are also not that expensive if you haven't lost all your hair yet.

If you combine it with dermarolling for better absorption the percentage will rise significantly. My trihologist told me that alone minox is useless on the front. Only on the crown. So it’s effectiveness largely depends on what parts of your scalp are balding faster
