When you stop using minox, assuming no further androgenic alopecia, will the shedding leave your worse off than before you started?

scenario 1: You use minox for long enough to get through the shedding period and gain an increase in hair density. You went through a shed to reach your increased density, and then you’ll shed again after stopping the drug. I figure this is because the hairs that have been kept in a prolonged resting phase restart the cycle because the drug is no longer present to keep them around. Those hairs should still regrow and return to a regular hair cycle type schedule, right?

scenario 2: you use minox for a shorter amount of time and are still in the shedding period. Minox caused shedding by kicking older hairs out of the resting phase and back into regrowth. Upon stopping the drug those hairs should still grow back, just not as quickly, right?

Im scenario 2. 4.5 months into use, 4 months into drastically increased shedding. Before minox I hardly shed at all and my density was never my problem. My problem is simply recession, nw1.5-2. I started minox thinking I’d gain regrowth in the areas of recession but I’ve long since accepted that I’ll need a small hair transplant to return to nw0-1. I’m basically using minox at this point simply to justify having shed all this hair, but if I’m right about these hairs growing back normally without minox, that doesn’t make much sense. Why use minox if your hair is already dense? I’ve also heard that patients lose responsiveness to minox after using for a certain amount of time so I should save it for if/when I lose density and actually need it.

Any insight on the question(s) or advice for my situation would be appreciated! Thanks cunts.

normally you'd only lose the hairs u gained from minox itself and the follicles u had before minox should regrow like usual and remain unaffected

Clear recession around 1.5-2. But good density and not hard to fraud. Been on fin for 6 months or so and it’s not gotten any worse. Hopefully with fin, a small ht, and maybe ru, I can maintain this density at nw.5 or so until my 30s or 40s. My dad had dense nw2ish until 40 or so. I have his balding pattern whereas my brothers got my moms dads balding pattern as well as his darker hair. They don’t have much recession but are severe diffuse thinners.

yeah its pretty bad nw2, but ur density makes up for it, so its not as bad
i'd just stick to fin tbh

Indeed not like minoxidil or a lack thereof causes alopecia

Indeed the recession is rather deep but also quite narrow. Most of my hairline is still solid and low and of course dense. Doesn’t really fit on this chart anywhere. Either way long hair for now and a ht in the future and I should be fine for a long time with androgens treated inshallah.

Bump since I only got one decent answer

I've heard minox only sheds hairs that were going to fall out anyway. and the rest will come back stronger. if you stop I'm sure they will just continue at the rate u were balding at. you're only on it for a few months so I'm sure u would be fine if you quit miinox. if you were on it for like 5 years thats when you should be nervous to stop.

didn't really read thread so if I didn't answer the question my bad

I would never use minox on hair. You simply will end up with minox depending hair and possibly don’t realize you are receding cuz minox keeps your hair up. When you realize it it’s already too late to hop on fin cuz all the hair you have is minox dependent. Fin seems like the only thing you should take when it comes to hair.

Yeah minox should only be for when your density has visibly taken a hit and you desperately need the boost
