I know the title is stupid, but if you've seen what I'm referring to you'll know what I mean. People are constantly coping about how bad they look in photos (especially when they are taken by other people), while claiming they look great in the mirror. This phenomenon is caused by two main reasons:
1. Angles & Recession
Individuals who are recessed seem to fall for this cope the hardest. This is because the mirror allows you to see a front view of your face whereas pictures may expose your profile. Both mandibular and maxillary recession can be partially hidden by the front view. This man had a severe underbite corrected via lefort and it made relatively minor changes to his front view (obviously still massive ascension).
2. Autism
Unlike taking a picture, when looking into a mirror you are able to see a continuous view of yourself. You are able to make adjustments to your expression, maybe squint a little, tilt your head downwards to hide your negative canthal tilt and hood your eyes, etc. I am guilty of doing this when I see my reflection as well.
Should you care?
While these kinds of threads are fun to make, you really shouldn't base your attraction on how you think you look, but rather on how you are treated.
