I’m not really sure what I want to do in life but right now I’ve set my goals on management consulting, so I joined business related school clubs

My parents like that and they glazed me for it

But today I told them I was thinking of firefighting and they were royally pissed. I’m not even that passionate I just researched it and thought it was a cool job. They went off about how it’s a lower profession and it pays nothing and that I would be a poor redneck white wannabe my whole life

Like nigga yes it’s not a tech job but I’m not gonna live in some shithole slum my whole life just cause I am a firefighter

Oh yeah and they pretend most firefighters are from extremely poor families and the reason they are firefighters is because they have nothing else they could do

Then they said the most retarded thing ever

They compared it to garbage collecting

I respect them but that’s stupid

Then they said they will NEVER support my decision to become a firefighter

First of all nigga I aint even say I changed my career goal I just said that was a cool job

Second of all aren’t you supposed to support me through whatever I do?

Third of all didn’t both of you come from a FAMILY OF FARMERS IN A RURAL AREA

No your education won’t remove your bloodline which clearly clawed its way from the uneducated landowning class when your granddad saved up enough money to send both of y’all into the cities and then into the US

I still don’t know for sure what job I want, but even if I do the white collar shit I’m going to be happy if my son or daughter decides to be a firefighter.

Just show them how much a fireman makes. I think they make pretty good money (depends on your area too I guess). And tell them that a lot of corporatecuck jobs are more competitive to enter rn and that you'd have a more realistic shot at working as a fireman
