Especially in USA due to regulations
They genuinely spec them with oil much thinner than they were designed for (0w-20 vs 5w-30) knowing it will accelerate wear becouse it increases their fleet MPG avg by like 1 or 2
Never use shit thinner than 5w-20 in an engine btw, unless it actually needs if for some reason or you live in the arctic circle. If where you live doesn’t get below 10f often you can probably use a grade thicker or at least a thicker base oil to prevent it falling out of grade. (10w30 over 5w30)
Also everything has to be big and heavy due to safety and emissions regulations (yes emissions regs somehow incentivize heavier larger vehicle that burn more fuel)
plus everything is electronic and stuff even door handles and shit. You genuinely have to use to computer menu to open the glove box on some teslas.
if manufacture built more modestly sized commuter cars like they did 30 years ago and optimized the aerodynamics they would get 70+ highway mpg easily. But instead they make crossovers that get 32mpg
this is what happens when you let finance busness people run a company. Same thing happened to Boeing. All those CEOs should be taken to Guantanamo bay so they can be replace by engineers.
Saw some statistic about how in the last 50 years the percent of companies run by internal engineers went from like 45% to 25%. Now they all get run by these outside finance CEO people.
