Its obligatory for me to tell you:

Spoiler: Kind of long

Do not watch thee 2016/2017 adaptations, they are fucking terrible and it's eye torture to see the shitty cgi.
You can watch the movies, although they aren't too good, but mog the 2016/2017 adaptations to oblivion.
The 1997 adaptation is generally considered decent, and most actually prefer the dub even though its not too great( but the same voice actors did a lot better in the movies), but guts voice gets really squeaky in the sub. Some of the sub voices, just lack the power.
Read the manga, its still going on to this day.
Would personally suggest starting with the 97 anime, then reading the manga- don't skip the first arc, even though its kind of shit.
