Schopenhauer:

  • Life is full of suffering.
  • Our wishes and needs never stop. That makes us unhappy.
  • Even when we get what we want, we soon feel empty again.
  • True peace comes when we stop wanting things.
  • Let go of desire. Avoid pain. Be quiet. Enjoy art and kindness.

Nietzsche:

  • Life is full of chaos and pain too.
  • But we should not run from it. We should say YES to it all.
  • Amor fati means love your fate, even the hard parts.
  • The dionysian human dances with life, embraces joy and suffering.
  • Create meaning through strength, passion, and art.

Easily Nietzsche. Even with the authoritarianism and amor fati failing for the same reason kant's categorical imperative fails, but even more miserably and disgracefully, he's way better than copenhauer. 99% of what copenhauer wrote is pointless. Say what you want about the boring parts of nietzsche they're more tolerable. Actual legit approach to life and no failed metaphysics.

"bitter odour of corpses which is peculiar to Schopenhauer."

Schopenhaur because he acknowledged reality as it was and did not try to wrestle it into beauty like nietzsche

Nietzsche and Schopenhauer both seem like hacks from what i've seen.

I find Spinoza's theory of the passions more compelling. Nietzsche's aphoristic style and Schopenhauer's bitterness towards Hegel are huge red flags🚩🚩🚩

That being said I'd side with Schopenhauer because he taught philosophy at least, while Nietzsche was just a philologist

Aphoristic style has its drawbacks but it's considered a plus by 99% of readers, it's what distinguishes him. How much have you read of nietzsche?

I think its great for aesthetic purposes and entertainment. I think most people like it because its more digestible than dry expository works. BUT i don't think philosophy should be done this way - it should be rigorous and explained clearly. If one wants poetic insights, they should just read fiction.

I read his less popular and unfinished work "Philosophy in the tragic age of the greeks" and i liked it, quite a beautiful history of presocratic thought. I thought i'd give his official works a try, but after reading a few chapters from BoT i got disillusioned with his analysis.

For me, philosophy just doesn't work when talked about this way. I somehow enjoy Spinoza's geometric analysis with axioms and theorems more than Nietzsche. And i don't mind prose, Descartes' Discourse on Method was also great IMO.

I agree with both but I thing the points that Schopenhauer made are more solid here.

Maybe letting go of desire is the real answer, even tho it’s a human thing to feel desire.

I relate to Schopenhauer more. The more I get, the more I want, satisfaction will always escape me.
