Mom Forced Me Into Braces Instead of Expansion

My mom forced me to get braces even though I didn't want them. I already have a long face and what I think is a narrow palate, but instead of giving me an expander, they just put braces on.
Now I'm worried they're just going to align my teeth in an already narrow arch and make my facial aesthetics even worse. My tongue already feels like it barely fits, and I can't stop thinking expansion would have made more sense.
Has anyone switched from braces to MARPE/MSE after starting treatment?
