Back when I was a kid, we would often do chin ups in the school yard on the football goals posts, or on bars used for beating the carpets to clean them, these used to be everywhere in many towns, but they disappeared after vacuum cleaners became popular.
Also, schools locked down their yards for non-students - everyone could enter before to play sports or train, now there are basically no public places to do some chin ups for free, however trains, subways and buses have some nice, sturdy handle bars that are perfect for this exercise, it would be pretty dumb to get a gym membership just to have access to a stupid chin up bar.

im glad i live in a shithole country and we still have those posts for beating carpets so i can exercise whenever i want and not do chin ups in the subway like a monkey
