Starting off, I felt like one of my biggest weak points was having pretty deep canine fossae. I used to think I was generally recessed through the midface, but the more I’ve looked into it, the more I think the issue is specifically the depth of my canine fossae rather than overall maxillary recession. I also wanted my jaw to rotate upward and forward. I figured the best way to encourage that would be through counterclockwise (CCW) rotation. I went to my orthodontist and talked to them about it, and they prescribed Invisalign to help correct my posterior open bite (where the premolars and molars don’t make proper contact when biting down).
As treatment progressed, my premolars and molars began making proper contact while chewing. I then intentionally focused on chewing through my posterior teeth, and I think that helped guide a lot of the CCW rotation in my face.
You can see the progress in the second photo, which I took this past Friday on my Mac using the Photo Booth app, so the quality is a little off. The third photo is from right now while I’m lying in a chair writing this thread lol.
Throughout this time, I also dropped a good amount of weight, de-bloated my face, increased my daily steps from around 2,000 to roughly 15,000, cleaned up my diet by focusing on whole foods, and improved my skincare routine. Right now it’s a salicylic acid cleanser, moisturizer, and tretinoin.
I also stepped up my eyebrow and eyelash routine using minoxidil, castor oil, and The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash & Brow Serum every morning and every night.
On top of that, I’ve been bone smashing every morning and night for about five minutes per side on my zygomatic area, plus another five minutes on my brow ridge. I’ve also been consistently mewing and taping my mouth shut every night with Micropore tape.
My main goal right now is definitely to widen my zygomatic arches with bone smashing. I don’t think I’m actually creating new bone it’s probably just temporary swelling and, maybe over time, some scar tissue or soft tissue remodeling. We’ll see what happens. The swelling is definitely real, though.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that while my zygomatic bones sit relatively high, they also have a pretty steep, acute angle, which I’d consider one of my weaker facial features at the moment. If anyone has advice on how to improve that area i’d appreciate hearing your thoughts.
