Most Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians have affinities with Greeks and Italians, not Saudis or Yemenites.

Obviously, Levantines are genetically closer to Greeks, especially Greek Islanders and Southern Italians than to Arabians.

Levantine FST with Arabia (sans Druze and Cypriots): ~0.0067

Levantine FST with Mainland Greeks: 0.006

Levantine FST with Abruzzo: ~0.0057

Levantine FST with Sicilians: ~0.0043

Keep in mind that Jordan is shifted to Arabia and Cyprus is more Southern European shifted. Druze are an isolate that is not close to any population but is more distant to Arabians than to Southern Europeans. Without Jordan, there's even more closeness. So I might even be UNDERESTIMATING the closeness between Levantines and Greeks/Southern Italians and UNDERESTIMATING the distance between Levantines and Arabians.

But it isn't just genetics. Lebanon is CLEARLY culturally more like Greece than Arabia. That isn't deniable unless you're Xangsane. Syria is still closer to Greece culturally but more Arabised. Jordan is the most Arabised but EVEN Jordan has some affinities with Southern Europe. Palestinians are less Arabised than Jordanians even.

So no, it isn't only "muh genetics". Lebanon feels like Greece not Arabia.

huge majority of people from the levant especially christians in palestine, lebanon and syria have a substantial percent of italian and greek ancestry due to colonization. Christian levntines look closer to southern europeans than gulf arabians, they are just arabized by language and culture
