I guess it depends on what you mean by average. If you're average, but constantly put yourself in situations where it could happen, have lots of friends etc, then yeah maybe someone will approach you at some point.

But if you're just a regular looking guy that keeps it to yourself and doesn't talk much or goes out with friends a lot, I think it's very possible to go years without getting approached, especially nowadays.
