One needs to ask. What does one mean by "European"? Sardinian "European"? Sephardic "European"? German "European"? Saami "European"? These are all distinct. The genetic differences between a Southern German and a Finn is almost great as the genetic differences between a Turk and Southern German. People from Malta are lumped in with "Europeans" even though Malta is in North Africa. Although a "North African" genetic structure doesn't exist either. The only "North Africans" Maltese have strong affinities with are "North African" Jews. Any other affinities are slight.

Conversely Turks are often excluded as "Europeans" despite 15% of the Turkish population being in Europe. The Dodecanese is always considered "Europe" despite being entirely in West Asia.
