How different are the dialects across the country?
If I speak Rigsdansk everyone understands. But if I speak synnejysk and go 100 km north people have no idea what I’m saying.

Love speaking my dialect in Copenhagen. They immediately respond in English. It’s funny af.

In some regions there is def a heavier dialect, like Bavaria or Austria. But we have something called "Hochdeutsch", which basically everyone understands.

In big city there are no accents (although many here speak with a very arab/turkish influenced german here)

But generally I can understand all accents when they try to speak "Hochdeutsch", so when they speak dialect with other dialect speakers I don't understand everything but they can change to Hochdeutsch and I will understand (Although you can still hear the accent).

So really, dialects are dead. Only old people still have some that I can't understand.

Only real hard dialect to understand nowadays is Swiss German.

Denmark is a small country. But we basically speak 50 languages(dialects so distinct that it’s incomprehensible to someone even 30 km away).

Fortunately most that speak Swiss German also speak which French in which I’m almost conversational
