As a very devout Muslim, my only intention was to understand why something was named after Nabi Sulayman (Prophet Solomon) when the Qur’an clearly states that he did not disbelieve. I didn't even click search; I just typed something into the search bar and noticed a Wikipedia link. I know that sihr (magic) is all about intention, and there's a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that says every action is judged by its intention. My intention was never to learn about sihr. If I had wanted to practice sihr, I wouldn't be asking this question—I would have simply pursued it, like going to a site like becomealivinggod.com to study it. But that's not me. I've been a Muslim for 19 years and will always be a Muslim. It's just that I struggle with OCD

It’s true, every action is judged by its intention, but not only that, i don’t think you could ever commit sihir that way. Looking at sihir isn’t the act of actually doing it, doing sihir is a whole action you’d actually devote to with full intention and I’m pretty sure it’s a big process. All you did was type something into google, not like that takes away your belief of God being the one true almighty nor that you were committing any form of it in any way.

I worry that by researching the occult and similar topics, I might be unknowingly committing kufr. Or is this verse referring specifically to those who have the intention to practice sihr, buy actual books on it, and apply what they learn? At that point, such a person would have already denounced Islam.


Personally, I often research topics like occultism, Freemasonry, and why celebrities, rappers, and athletes seem to worship Lucifer and see demons as ancient gods, or consider witchcraft as neutral. Is studying these things haram (forbidden) and does it constitute kufr? Sorry if I'm going off-topic
