If you have a cancerous growth, they require energy to grow. This is the reason why a typical symptom for cancer is weight loss. If one eats enough, you could mask the weight loss. It would make sense that cancer increased appetite because you need more energy.

With that being said, it was of course only a joke. The reality is that manner types of cancer creates nausea and lower hunger levels, and there are many other reasons for increased hunger, such as cortisol spike.
