my parents casually mentioned how my dad was 21 and my mom was 16 when they met

16 and 21 is fine, though I guess it kinda depends on how mature the 21 year old is.
Nowadays almost every 21 is still very immature (both mentally and financially). But "back in the day" there were a lot more 21 year olds that were proper men with a good job and suit n shit
