Been depressed my whole life. Literally. Testosterone didnt help (I probably had high T anyways). SSRIs made it worse (I probably had high serotonin before). Wellbutrin helped for a bit but eventually I stopped feeling any difference from taking it. Finasteride made it much worse. I also had very high systemic chronic inflammation. And a porn addiction to top if off. And a shitty adolescence. I have tried almost everything under the sun to help my situation. So this post is coming from years and years of experimenting with drugs, supplements, diets, hormones, and nootropics. There might be other useful stuff but this is what I know as of today.
Until I started taking a few supplements and implementing some lifestyle changes. This list includes some things I'm certain have helped me improve my mental health dramatically. Might add to it later. So aside from test and Wellbutrin this is what I'm doing.
Supplements
1. Progesterone. Literally the #1 thing that's helped me since I take both testosterone and finasteride, progesterone is the most important add-on to finasteride and/or TRT. The one I take is made by Ray Peat himself which includes vitamin E and MCT oil. Great product.
2. NAC: N-acetyl-cysteine. Look it up. I started taking a very high dose of this twice a day (about 6 grams per day) and I swear on my molded dick that it has taken away over 50% of the negative emotions I feel, and makes me just feel very very good. It's probably related to brain inflammation. Evidence does show it reduces symptoms of autism and OCD, and helps with addiction. I can attest to all of these, even my porn habit seems better. NAC was taken off Amazon and most stores so you need to buy it from supplement companies directly, or get it on iHerb.com.
3. Sulforaphane: Noticeably makes me feel better mentally. Promising studies show it reduces autism symptoms in adults and reduces depression, and can benefit health in many other ways. Buy the BroQ one on Amazon, it's a patented form of sulforaphane that just made it to the USA, it used to only be available as a prescription in France.
4. Saffron. Originally an Iranian spice, very expensive. There are studies confirming it's very effective in treating depression. And I also have fucked up vision genetics and saffron is known to be good for macular degeneration. Clearly makes me feel more motivation but in a calming way. Hit or miss supplement imo, only get it from a good brand.
5. Minerals: Zinc, magnesium, Lithium, Iodine, Selenium. These minerals clearly have helped me. Especially with sleep for the first three. This is a great multi-mineral supplement that doesn't contain iron or copper.
6. Mucuna Pruriens. I tend to take it every day tbh, it might be better to cycle it though. Precursor to dopamine. Makes me clearly want to do things and gives me clean energy (as opposed to hardcore stimulants which cause horrible crashes). The first time I took Mucuna I was literally doing everything I had on my to-do list and was smiling through it, it made the act of getting things done feel good. Evidence also shows it increases androgen receptor density, fertility, and sexual function. Most brands are fine. I like this one.
7. Vitamin D3. I'm naturally very pale so I probably have high vitamin D levels anyways, but in the winter I still get fucked in the head. This seems to help. And most of you curries and blacks definitely need it. Any brand works.
8. Aspirin. Good anti-inflammatory med. Might help some people. And it's good for your health. Any brand works.
What about diet?
I don't eat any added PUFAs. Period.
I don't eat any gluten. Period.
I drink alcohol only when I'm at parties, which is once or twice a month. Mostly I drink margaritas and sometimes fruit juice seltzers.
Most of my calories come from milk, yogurt, eggs, white rice, blueberries, bone broth, ground beef, ghee, orange juice, and raw honey. All animal products are grass fed with no antibiotics or hormones. Very good energy levels. Sometimes snack on carrots or other fruits. Sometimes ice cream lol.
What about sleep?
Simple. I use a blue light blocker app on my phone. I take Ashwagandha, Apigenin, L-theanine, magnesium, drink some bone broth before bed for the glycine, and I sleep really good with that.
Other lifestyle habits?
- Lots of sunlight.
- I walk a lot if I can. I try to walk places when I can instead of driving. Luckily I live in a rural area so I can do it easier.
- Reducing my porn use gradually. I have a fucking girlfriend it's so pathetic to watch porn tbh ngl.
- Visiting my parents more and talking to family members more. Serious this can help a lot, so do it if you can.
Good luck hope this helps bros.
