I rarely post but figured it's good to share anecdotal experiences with the community, so I'll get straight into it.

I'm 16 and got diagnosed with ADHD in February.

The Prescription:
I was prescribed 20mg Ritalin (immediate-release) twice a day. It lasts about 3-4 hours per dose. I take it in the morning before school and again after I eat when I get home.

✅ The Positives (Ritalin Alone)

  • Body Awareness: Much more intense awareness of things like posture. Bad posture is linked to ADHD, and since starting Ritalin mine has improved massively.
  • Focus: Honestly, I have no clue how I've been living without this. I did jack shit in school before. Now I actually listen and do the work.
  • Grades: Went from 2s, 3s, and 4s (UK grading) to straight 8s and 9s. For Americans, that's basically going from failing to straight A*s and As.
  • Life Trajectory: My parents were telling me to look into bricklaying or an apprenticeship and just skip uni. Now I'm getting the best grades in my year. This medication has literally changed my life.

❌ The Drawbacks (Ritalin Alone)

1. Appetite Suppression
You won't feel hungry. Like, at all. Trying to eat on this is hell. At the start I was barely hitting 1,500 calories and lost a lot of weight. Even forcing food down was impossible—my body was literally trying to reject it. (This is slowly improving.)

2. The Crash
Because it's IR and only lasts 3-4 hours, there's a brutal gap in the middle of the day when the morning dose wears off. The crash is intense. I get angry at everything and my overall mood just plummets until the second dose kicks in.

3. Hyperfocus on the Wrong Thing
This is a double-edged sword. If I take Ritalin and then start doing something unproductive (like scrolling my phone or organizing files), I'm finished. I will lock onto that useless task for the entire duration of the dose. The focus is powerful but directionless without conscious effort.

4. Anxiety (The Worst Part)
I could barely put a sentence together on Ritalin. I couldn't look anyone in the eyes. As someone who already struggled with anxiety, this made things ten times worse. It was horrible.

💉 The Fix: Adding Selank (500mcg SubQ)

I remembered I had a bunch of Selank left in the fridge that I wasn't using because I was too lazy to pin in the morning.

I started taking 500mcg Selank subcutaneously with each Ritalin dose.

This changed EVERYTHING.

  • No more 'euphoric' feeling: The weird rush is gone.
  • No more hyperfocusing on the wrong thing: The focus is still there, but I can steer it now.
  • No more anxiety: This is the big one. I've been so calm, while still being alert and able to focus. It's like Ritalin makes my focus levels explode, and Selank stops it from spilling over into bad side effects.
The Eye Contact Flip:
Before, I could never make eye contact. Now I struggle with not breaking eye contact. It's completely switched. I can actually form sentences and talk to people like a normal human being.

🧠 Why This Works (Brief Science)

Selank works as a multi-faceted modulator. It targets several systems at once to create a sense of calm and mental clarity without sedation, which complements and refines Ritalin's effects. It does this through four primary mechanisms:

  • Stabilizing GABA
  • Boosting natural anti-anxiety peptides (enkephalins)
  • Calming immune response
  • Fine-tuning dopamine and serotonin
Basically, Ritalin provides the engine. Selank provides the steering and suspension.

⚠️ Selank Downsides?

Injections are inconvenient. That's it. I've noticed zero side effects from it otherwise.

(Note: I will be switching from Ritalin IR to Concerta next week due to the supply shortages where I live. I'll update if the experience changes.)

TL;DR: Ritalin gave me focus but made me an anxious, hangry robot. Adding 500mcg Selank SubQ fixed the anxiety and smoothed out the focus without killing the benefits. Eye contact went from impossible to effortless.

THIS MY TRUE EXPERIENCE I JUST USED AI TO FORMATBIT AND NOT GENERATE IT AND TO MAKE IT READABLE THX

ur downside of selank being injections is easily fixable . if u just turn it into a nasal spray which is very easy it is more effective as it crosses the blood brain barrier muchhh better so also faster onset. and ofc easier to administer with a quick spray. also that euphoric feeling u said that goes away is most likely do to prolonged use of ritalin. it goes away for everyone.

Good point on the nasal spray. I actually looked into that b4 and found for me Subq works better because I need the anxiety relief to last the whole 4 hour window of the Ritalin dose. Nasal hits faster but I found it fades before the Ritalin crash hits. i get what ur tryna say abt the tolerance but its rather pharmacodynamic regulation. Selank blunts the dopaminergic spike in the nac. if it was just prolonged use id still have the side effect of anxiety. the fact that both disappeared simultaneously is an effect on GABA/enkephalin by the selank. im switching to concerta tmrw so itll be interesting to experience the difference on it and i think ill benefit from the extended release
