There are a lot of parents who grew up in poverty, so they want what they think is best for their children. Which in this case i suppose means eating more. You need to eat more nutritious foods, it will help you with your height. When the food is low-nutri, you have to eat a lot of it to actually grow. This also happened to me when i was your age. Our food was basically low-nutri high-cal. which made me fat for a few years. He could be subconciously applying that logic.
