First off retinol is trash and there are better otc retinoids
Adapalene: Very gentle on the skin ime and I personally saw my acne improve after a day but I never used it for very long
Tretinoin: Gold standard for anti aging but for acne the effects take too long to work. The purge is horrendous and it feels oily on my skin but tbf I also used it for not very long
Tazarotene: This was one that I have a lot of experience on it and I like it much better than tretinoin. It’s like a mix of adapalene and tretinoin. It’s not as irritating as tretinoin but it’s stronger. The purge was fucking horrific it looked like meth scabs after 2 weeks. It’s best to just use 2-3x a week. This is definitely the best topical for anti aging and acne tr
Isotretinoin: My favorite retinoid. It gets deep in the skin for anti aging but there aren’t many studies on it for anti aging. For acne, I saw results pretty much immediately but not any clearing just yet(I’m only 1 week into it). The drying on the skin isn’t that bad and it’s mostly fear mongered. 40-80mg for 6 months for acne or 10mg daily for a year to keep skin clear and anti aging.
