What even is a tsundre?

A tsundere is an anime/manga character archetype: someone who acts cold, hostile, or dismissive on the surface but is secretly soft and affectionate underneath. The name mashes two Japanese words, "tsun tsun" (aloof, prickly) and "dere dere" (lovey-dovey).


Classic move: they help you, then snap "It's not like I did it for you or anything, idiot." Lots of blushing, denial, and the occasional smack. The whole appeal is the gap between the spiky exterior and the gooey center slowly leaking out.
