We’re all meeting for another of my uni friends’ birthday. I haven’t seen any of them in 2 years. It was an instagram group chat, and since I don’t use instagram I made a quick throwaway, and the friend in question added me to the gc and followed me, so I followed him

His profile is now the extremely normie “artsy” type, with slides of pics of him and others in various places, with captions intended to be witty or funny. There’s literally one of him drinking matcha and reading, and it doesn’t even look ironic. He’s gone from being similar to me socially and in humour, and never talking to females, to now hanging out with girls as friends, and now has a girlfriend too ( )

He also had no posts before, but now in the last 9 months it seems he’s tried to curate some new persona, including with these performative posts. Having only left the country a couple of times before, when I knew him, he now has a bunch of pictures of him in other countries

This guy was my best friend at uni, but now it seems he sold out and became bland, for broader surface level appeal. It’ll be interesting to see if we click when we meet at this birthday. But of course he’s now bringing his jeet girlfriend, despite it being a reunion of our friend group, so I’m sure he has to keep up his new facade
