He used to study all week but still ended up getting shit grades. Even his parents had given up hope on him but what he did have was stubborn consistency. He kept showing up to classes. He was one year senior to me but was attending the same classes that I did in because of his backlogs. He kept begging professors to teach him, kept failing, learning one concept at a time slowly while others coasted.

Over time all of that compounded and after receiving more than 300 rejections he started working as a software engineer at CommonVault in July not because he was special but because he refused to quit he is like me but his story is 10x more brutal than mine. It's been half a year since he has been working as software engineer and he's already getting a promotion soon.

the longer i spend in this field the more I realize I'll almost never be able to compete for the salaries and positions I want at big tech. I legitimately think my IQ isn't adequate to get to the level of leetcode needed to pass these interviews unless I get lucky with one i've seen before. I struggle so much at leetcode compared to people I know.

Seriously wondering whether I'm destined to work at bottom of the barrel companies and never crack those high paying jobs.

Leetcode and data structures can be learnt brah. LeetCode is grindable and objective(ish). System design is like performing a memorized dance while the interviewer randomly changes the music. I was just talking about this with @redeemthecard data structures is just lots and lots of practice.

the introduction of AI has made the entry level market for engineering uncertain at best. As now engineers can accomplish 1.5x the amount of work or more.

Not genetics per se, but level of endurance varies from person to person. Your ability to succeed can be hindered by lack of support, poor IQ, mental health issues, etc whereas others can more easily rise above them.
