They use your mock results. You aren’t even at university, are you? You’re just repeating what your head of year rambled to you all. If they use your GCSEs for your predicted grades and not the mock exams conveniently placed before the application then your school needs a slap.

universities don’t see your mock results, they see the grades your teachers predict which vary wildly depending on your school/teacher (I know 2 people at different schools, both with an A prediction, but one got an A* on his mock and the other got a C lol.) also you don’t need straight 9s but ‘bad’ GCSEs (in context of your school) will disadvantage you, literally everyone I have spoken to but you who goes to Oxbridge/LSE says this, LSE even say on their website that you need 7s 8s and 9s.

Can only do comp science and physics at any good uni with maths a levels (specifically As too). ATP you need maths for everything even fucking philosophy needs atleast a 7 in maths.

Im checking out maths a levels stuff rn. If I don’t like it i might go the medical route.

@Jason Voorhees I failed French and got a shit ton of 5s. Oxbridge don’t give a flying monkey about your GCSEs; they are so insignificant that they genuinely get ignored as does your personal statement unless interviewed.

Funny enough, the kids good at GCSEs usually do terrible at A-Level, and vice versa.

The teachers use your mock results. That’s my literal point. They will look at it and decide. In fact, at my sixth form, they literally let you pick them yourself almost. I knew someone who got DDD then just said “I want AAA for dentistry” and they said, “okay”. They want to give you the chance and although some are stricter, this leniency is the general rule.

If you do horrible at GCSE then they’ll not be happy about that, but OP has beaten that threshold by an absolute long shot and is considered in the upper tier. Your teacher prediction and result on your admissions test is literally infinitely better. They didn’t even know my grades in the interview; I know this because I mentioned it very subtly and they said they didn’t know and asked me to elaborate.

Pharmacy is fine. Medicine and dentistry do care a bit more than usual, but so long as you smash your mocks, you’ll be totally good.

Graph theory is literal rubbish like plotting log curves and interpreting them. A-Level maths is super duper easy. I didn’t revise for it. I did further maths too like @Saint Casanova and I really enjoyed it. Some hate it, however.

I just hate maths so much bro looking at it gives me a headache. All the other subjects that are supposed to be “as hard” are millions of times easier for me (even physics which is basically the same, but more interesting.)

The real difficulty are some admissions tests. Look at STEP 3 for example. It’s not the fact that they involve extremely complex maths, but the questions are long and abstract.

They took out the pattern recognition section which might have been harder to prepare for ( more of an IQ indicator) and now you can easily prepare for all the sections.

Solving ODEs and PDEs isn't too difficult if you have memorized the formulas and have good practice it is the formation of the equation that eats your brain. Especially when they give you novel application based problems that you've never seen before

We had to shut up and study whatever the school decided for us If you went to an expensive school, you might get a few optional subjects, but most schools didn’t bother offering them, so there wasn’t much flexibility at all @Chadeep
