Below are my personal interpretations of how sayings like this reflect cultural impact and the idea of external corruption. (Schizo ramblings of a vagrant)
I noticed how not only is childhood glorified but so is purity. If you look at life from a lens of determinism, you can view purity as simply a lack of experience in the world. But in that same sense, purity would just be existence as a purely blank canvas (because you are only a product of external factors and moments, causing impurities.)
Additionally, childhood (in the same way as purity) is used as an example of the most blissful time in your life. My idea of why this happens is just because of the fact that in earlier ages you're able to experience life in the most direct way of thinking. You interpret everything much more directly and this is because you haven't experienced many things which would shape your means of understanding new ideas (these things later forming into doubt, responsibility, judgement, etc.)
The nostalgia for childhood (based on this) can be interpreted as a longing for a more direct way of experiencing life (aka: a removal of the clouds formed by later experiences that make everything complicated.)
Obviously if we simply moved towards this feeling because we see it as the happiest means of living, we would curb progression and growth as a society. So ignorance is bliss because bliss is ignorance. And ignorance curbs growth. So does bliss stop society from progressing too? Which should be prioritized for humanity?
I don't really know. These are kinda just my pretentious ramblings but I tried to give it a little bit of a structure even though I'm basically just using these longer threads as personal recordings of my thoughts that I'm trying to put into words. I really don't know shit about philosophy (yet) so this might be a lil retarded
