It has taken me 4 years to finally realize that i am recessed. I always ignored it and never confronted it. But with the knowledge i have now it seemed to click, i started surface level researching about it and taking amateur measurements. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that i am recessed as it is obvious visually speaking. My chin is 15mm recessed, my philtrum exceeds the standard length, a drooping nasal tip, resulting in a rattish appearance. But to really find out if i was eligible for a double jaw surgery, was by investigating functionality.
So what i did is quickly download a snore app, to find out whether i snore or not. Over the span of a week, it was clear that i was snoring each and every night. Other signs I later caught onto was jaw popping with minimal pain and a harder time nose breathing. I booked my appointment with the dentist, at the time i thought it would be a good plan to start from there to eventually get referred to a surgeon, but later after booking my second appointment i realized i could’ve just bypassed all that filler.
The day of my first appointment was quick, nothing much happened as a dentist has minimal expertise in bone structure. Nevertheless, she evaluated my teeth, saw nothing wrong and then started theorizing that it could be my sinuses and that my snoring could be normal as my palate is already wide. Despite that we booked another appointment for the orthodontist.
Today was the second appointment and it went in my favor. I told her i came here because of my bone deformity and explained to her that i experience sleep apnea and jaw popping, she quickly tested my jaw popping and agreed. She explained to me that i have a class 3 bite which confused me since I have slight overbite rather than under bite, but she clarified it is due to structural compensation. But to be honest, i don’t really remember what she said except for the term class 3 so i can’t go further in depth on that.
Now i have to wait until late September to get my pictures taken. After that they will conclude what exactly needs to happen. And after that, i’ll be referred to a surgeon where i can further elaborate and discuss my problems. If there’s anything important i need to do feel free to give me advice.
