to fix a few mm of overbite i suppose?
doesn't it literally push my maxilla back? i feel like i should just throw them away instantly

Yeah it does. So what elastics does is basically, rather than fixing the overbite by also bringing your lower jaw forward, instead it pushes the maxilla back to align properly with your lower jaw.

Show your orthodontist this website and say you’re telling me you want me to become a recessed Maxillacel? Say JUST FUCKING LAUGHING and knock down all his equipment on your way out.

i honestly don't get where this mentality comes from. it's as if improving the aesthetics of a patient along with functional improvements is somehow bad. it sounds so straight forward, just drag the lower jaw forward fixing the bite, improving facial aesthetics and leaving the airways untouched. but no, why not set the maxilla back, constricting the airways AND ruining facial aesthetics, right ? it's totally the way to go :forcedsmile::forcedsmile:

orthodontic industry be like

I really doubt that the force applied by fukin rubber bands is able to do any real visible change to your facial bones. If that were the case then mewers would all be Chads by now. They mostly affect teeth alignment. I'd finish treatment as suggested by your orthodontist (unless it's some actual bogus) and get surgery later on if you feel you need it.

what about bands that close the bite? i.e lower jaw to top jaw vertically
