Im 15 and am a crew member in hungry jacks and will be making 150k a year (uptu 200k with bonuses) by the time im 28
Stage 1: Crew Member (15–17)
Goal: Build reputation + skills fast
What to focus on:
- Show up on time every shift (this matters more than people think)
- Learn ALL stations (register, grill, drive-thru, prep)
- Speed + accuracy under pressure
- Don’t get involved in drama
- Ask shift managers questions (but don’t be annoying about it)
What gets you promoted:
- Reliability > personality
- Being the “go-to” person during rushes
Target outcome:
- Become trainer / senior crew
Stage 2: Shift Supervisor (16–19)
Goal: First leadership role
You’ll need:
- Leadership training (usually internal)
- Confidence managing 3–10 staff
- Understanding KPIs (speed, waste, customer satisfaction)
Skills to build:
- Conflict handling (staff vs staff)
- Basic rostering
- Opening/closing store procedures
- Food safety responsibility
Income range:
- ~$55k–$70k depending on hours/penalties
Stage 3: Assistant Manager → Store Manager (18–22)
Goal: Run a full restaurant
This is where money starts to matter:
- Staff management (20–50 people)
- Profit & loss understanding (very important)
- Hiring/firing decisions
- Stock + cost control
Store Manager pay:
- ~$70k–$100k+ (with bonuses sometimes higher)
To stand out:
- Improve store performance metrics
- Reduce staff turnover
- Hit sales targets consistently
Stage 4: Area / Operations Manager (22–30)
Goal: Multiple stores
Now you’re managing managers.
Responsibilities:
- 5–15 stores
- Profit performance across locations
- Training store managers
- Fixing underperforming stores
Income:
- ~$110k–$150k+ (this is your target range)
This is the most realistic way to hit your $150k salary goal without owning a business.
Stage 5: Franchise Owner (optional but highest ceiling)
Hard truth:
- Requires significant capital (often $300k–$1M+ depending on store)
- Loans or investors usually needed
But upside:
- Can exceed $150k easily if store is successful
- Multiple stores = much higher income
Key skills that actually matter (not school grades)
- Leadership under pressure
- Communication (especially with older staff)
- Time management
- Basic maths (rostering, labour %)
- Emotional control in rush hours
- Consistency over years
Common mistakes to avoid
- Quitting too early (most people leave in 6–12 months)
- Only doing minimum work
- Refusing leadership roles because “it’s too stressful”
- Thinking promotions are automatic
