Gujaratis are mostly Hindu but there are also Gujarati Muslims. Jinnah (founder of Pakistan) was also a Gujarati Muslim. Gujaratis can sometimes have colored eyes. Or your chick might be Panjabi or even Kashmiri as these are also known to have colored eyes sometimes. Other groups in North India don’t.

We use both actually. But in different contexts. If you have problem understanding a theory, you will say “begrijpen” but if you have trouble hearing someone you will say “verstaan”.
